Prior to becoming a judge, Lynn was a litigation partner at the law firm of Grotefeld Hoffmann, LLP where she practiced for 20 years. At Grotefeld Hoffmann she represented clients nationally in all aspects of commercial litigation, focusing primarily in the areas of contract, tort, products liability and construction defects. She has extensive trial experience in both State and Federal Court and has also represented her clients at the Appellate and Supreme Court levels. Lynn has also served as lead counsel for individual plaintiffs and insurance industry clients in several catastrophic losses stemming from wildland fires. She has also presented numerous seminars and continuing legal education programs on topics ranging from litigation strategy to the selection of expert witnesses.
Judge Weaver Boyle began her career as an Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney. As an Assistant State’s Attorney, she successfully prosecuted over 500 felony bench trials and more than 50 felony jury trials. Her assignments included the Narcotics Unit of the Special Prosecutions Bureau, First Chair in the Felony Trial Division and the Gang Unit of the Special Prosecutions Bureau. Lynn was one of 23 elite prosecutors specifically chosen to investigate and prosecute crimes of violence perpetrated by street gangs in Cook County.
Judge Lynn Weaver Boyle earned her law degree at DePaul University College of Law in 1990 and has been a licensed attorney for 29 years. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign in 1987.
Lynn is active in numerous bar associations and in her community. She has been a volunteer with Wills for Heroes for many years. She also volunteers with the Illinois Judges Association In School Program and the Jason Foundation, a nationwide youth suicide awareness, prevention and education program. Lynn has also served as an Adjunct Professor in Trial Advocacy at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law for the last 15 years. She is also involved in the Tel Aviv University LLM program teaching attorneys from Israel trial advocacy techniques.
Judge Weaver Boyle lives with her family in East Lake View and is a resident of the 44th Ward.
Lynn Weaver Boyle was found highly qualified or highly recommended by the Chicago Bar Association, the Decalogue Society of Lawyers, the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois, the Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago and the Puerto Rican Bar Association. All other evaluating bar associations found her qualified or recommended.
The Chicago Bar Association found Ms. Weaver Boyle to have “extensive jury and non-jury experience and she is well regarded for her integrity, calm demeanor, knowledge of the law and legal ability.”
